Reaps Moss Wind Farm is now operational

Published: 18/09/2015

Partnerships for Renewables is delighted to announce that Reaps Moss Wind farm is now fully operational following commissioning, with all three turbines supplying electricity to the grid.

Works on site are now essentially compete, with all the plant and machinery and the construction compound removed, and re-landscaping and soil seeding work completed.   The owners of the project, Reaps Moss Limited, are scheduled to formally take over responsibility for the site from the construction contractors, I&H Brown, on 27th September.

Over the next few months, operational noise monitoring will be carried out at a number of neighbouring properties to ensure that the turbines are operating within the agreed noise parameters.  In line with the agreed planning conditions, water quality monitoring will continue for the next two years to protect the Private Water Supply holders close to the site.   Habitat and protected species monitoring will continue to take place at regular intervals for the lifetime of the project, expected to be between 20-25 years.

A Community Benefit Fund of at least £10,000 per year has been set up by the owners of the site, with the first application round due to be advertised shortly.   The fund has been designed to benefit community projects in both Bacup and Todmorden, the nearest towns to the west and east of the site.   The decisions on which projects to support will be taken by a panel of local representatives.   Details of the application process will be announced in the coming weeks.
