Passive Solar Design

This involves using design principles of buildings to directly take advantage of the Sun’s energy in terms of heating and lighting. This reduces or even avoids the need for electricity.

The term also applies to the reverse - avoiding the Sun’s heat and therefore reducing or removing the need for cooling or air-conditioning.

This will involve considerations such as size and positioning of windows, use of materials, insulation and air-flow.
